This accessibility statement explains how Etowah Wire works to make local news for Etowah County readable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification or other assistive technology.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the site, and we check accessibility regularly as the site changes.
What we do
- The site can be used with a keyboard, and a "Skip to content" link is the first thing on every page.
- Pages use clear headings, lists and landmarks, so screen readers can move through them easily. Long stories have an "On this page" list of sections.
- Text and buttons are designed with strong contrast. You can choose light or dark mode, or follow your device's setting.
- Story photos have text descriptions and captions.
- Text can be enlarged without breaking the layout, and the site works on small screens.
- Links that open in a new tab say so.
Known limits
Some documents we link to, such as PDFs published by government bodies, are not ours and may not be accessible. When we can, we describe their contents in our stories.
Report a barrier
